Button Block Building

History
The granite column at the corner of the Button Block Building was in need of replacement. Iron bands have been placed around the column to prevent its failure. The project required us to provide accurate dimensions of the subtle changes in the column's diameters, allowing a new column to be machined from matching granite.
Project Process
Our 3-D laser scanning technology captured the column's form. Taking three scans and linking them together provided a virtual model of the entire column that could then be measured in virtual reality without the need of tape measures or ladders. Once the data was compiled it was converted into digital 2-D drawings. The stone manufacturer used our scan data to machine a new granite column.

Benefits
Laser scanning quickly and accurately captured the exact form of the column for reproduction. The whole process from start to delivery was approximately one half day.
